This 10 Day Irish Self-Drive, is ten days of pure relaxation and breath taking scenery all waiting for you to discover, explore and enjoy. In Dublin, is the chance to unwind and relax and prepare for your spectacular drives in the days ahead. Why not take it easy! Take an open top Bus Tour or explore the many attractions Dublin has to offer. Stop at historic Trim Castle on your journey out West. Travel on to Ireland’s cultural capitol, Galway City. Experience the Wild Atlantic with sea trips to the Aran Islands majestic Cliffs of Moher.

Discover the Wild Atlantic Way, get to view stunning sunsets. Ssample local drink, food and music. Explore Connemara and into Clare to view the spectacular ancient landscape. Cross the stunning Shannon to Killarney through beautiful empty lush landscapes landscapes. From Killarney it is all about rings, Ring of Kerry and Ring of Skellig this is driving on the spectacular Wild Atlantic Way along this fantastic coastal drive. On through Ireland’s south coast where Atlantic meets the Copper Coast into Waterford and onto Medieval Kilkenny and Dublin. Enjoy this stunning 10 Day Irish Self-Drive.

Description of Tour

Day 1: Arrival Day Dublin 

  • Arrive in Dublin Airport where your Carroll’s rep will be there to meet you
  • This is the start of your 10 Day Irish Self-Drive
  • A quick Transfer into the city and Check-in to your accommodation
  • Refresh with Coffee and enjoy an Open Top Bus Tour of Dublins City Centre
  • After Lunch, in the afternoon, visit one of Ireland’s major attractions The Guinness Storehouse
  • A unique Walking Tour will take you back to the  City Centre
  • Suggested Dinner in the Church Restaurant
  • Explore Dublin’s bars, like The Palace Bar for quiet drink or The Norseman for lively Trad sessions

Day 2: Galway City

  • Start early with Breakfast
  • Pick up car early from City Centre Car Depot
  • Head north of Dublin, to Trim Castle, stirring siege setting for the Mel Gibson movie ‘Braveheart’
  • Rejoin motorway West and take a Coffee break and enjoy the surroundings of the ancient onastic settlement of Clonmacnoise
  • Arrive in Galway, the ‘City of the Tribes’. Check-in to B&B and hit the street, bursting with culture.
  • Hear the great street entertainers, visit traditional pubs with great music, An Pucan, The Garavan, and Taylors
  • Galway’s renowned Spanish Arch in the Quays area of the city centre
  • Enjoy Dinner and the nightlife of this exceptional city

Day 3: Tour of Connemara or Aran Islands

  • Wild Atlantic hearty breakfast
  • Embark for a Cruise on Lough Corrib to enjoy the stunning scenery
  • Drive through scenic Connemara. And discover Kylemore Abbey, elegant rooms and a charming lakeside church
  • Alternatively, you may prefer to take the stunning sea trip ferry to the Aran Islands. These Islands will take you back to an Ireland of Celts and Early Christians
  • Take a Pony and Trap, or Hire a Bike from the pier and head up the island to the stone fort of Dun Aengus
  • Enjoy lunch more of Connemara
  • Return to Galway, the evening is yours to enjoy
  • Enjoy your down time, out by the Spanish Arch and enjoy a beer/coffee on the stunning quayside

Day 4: Cliffs of Moher

  • Today is going to be special!
  • Head out from Galway and travel through the fabulous Burren
  • Follow the West Coast of Clare, enjoy this stunning road trip
  • This route takes in Blackhead, Fanore and the beautiful village of Doolin  which is world-famous for its traditional Irish music
  • One of the highlights of your trip will be Ireland’s best-known attractions, the Cliffs of Moher
  • Carroll’s Tours offer as part of trip a fantastic Sea Cruise
  • From the Cliffs of Moher youy can view the offshore Aran Islands and the Wild Atlantic Coastline
  • After soaking up the views travel The Burren Loop, this is a stunning drive, castles abound and megalithic remains. The Cliffs of Moher are set in the the Burren which was voted one of Ireland’s top visitor attractions and it is a designated UNESCO Geo Park
  • Enjoy an overnight stay in the fantastic village of Doolin, with pretty quaint houses and fantastic bars
  • A suggested Dinner and evening of music and chat in Ireland’s fantastic bar Gus O’Connor’s
  • Overnight is in Doolin

Day 5: Doolin to Killarney

  • Great road trip ahead, set off after a hearty breakfast to Kerry!
  • Hug the Clare coast, taking a stop at the great sea cliffs and caves at Kilkee from the ruins of Dunalicky Castle
  • The road trip takes you across the River Shannon on a car ferry
  • Head straight into Killarney which is approximately one hour by car
  • Check-in, freshen up and enjoy a very quick trip to beautiful Ross Castle on lakeshore
  • Take a short drive up through the Gap of Dunglow
  • In the evening a relaxing Dinner
  • After dinner enjoy Killarney’s famed Bars

Day 6: Ring of Kerry

  • Start the day with Irish Breakfast!
  • Head to Kenmare for some of the most scenic views in Ireland on the Ring of Kerry. The Ring of Kerry, is a 100 mile winding coastal drive consisting of beautiful beaches, cliffs, and iconic landscapes
  • Leaving Killarney, take stops at the stunning Torc Waterfall and Ladies view as you head towards Kenmare
  • The mountain road takes you over Moll’s Gap with panoramic views of Ireland’s highest mountains
  • Stop for a short coffee break and stroll around Sneem, with its brightly painted houses
  • Head to Ballinskelligs as you leave the Ring of Kerry to join the Skellig Ring!
  • Star Wars fan? why not visit St Finans Bay where Star Wars VII was filmed with its spectacular views of the mighty Rocky Skellig Michael
  • Head to Portmagee to visit the Skellig Chocolate Factory and Whiskey Distillery
  • Rejoin the Ring of Kerry travelleing through Kells Beach, Glenbeigh and at Kilorglin head back to Killarney heading over the Gap of Dunglow
  • Enjoy evening Dinner in Killarney and after dinner enjoy the towns many lively bars

Day 7: Waterford Via Cobh

  • Early Start and obligatory Breakfast
  • Exit Kilarney and head way East to Waterford via Cobh on this exciting road trip
  • Drive along the south Coast of Ireland, a distance of about 120 miles, towards Waterford City
  • A choice of Town of Cobh for Lunch, or a visit to Blarney Castle to Kiss the Stone
  • Head to Jameson Midlton Distillery
  • Onwards to Waterford City along the stunning Copper coast, with its secret pirate coves, cliff top road and stunning unrestricted sea views, and into Waterford City for an overnight stay
  • In the evening choose from one of the many pubs and restaurants Waterford has to offer.

Day 8:  Waterford City & Kilkenny City

  • Hearty Breakfast and you get off to a flying start heading up North
  • To beautiful Lismore Castle – ancestral home of the Boyles for a leisurely tour or walk around stunning grounds
  • Head to Walsh Distillery in Carlow, Irelands award winning Whiskey makers, for Sip and Lunch
  • As you head into Kilkenny a must see is the spooky Dunmore Cave a short distance from City
  • Continue to Ireland’s ‘Medieval Capital’ Kilkenny City, park the car and explore on foot the famous 12th Century Kilkenny Castle
  • Take Bike/Walking Touralong Kilkenny’s ‘Medieval Mile’
  • Stops at  St. Canice’s CathedralSmithwick’s Brewery and beautiful Kilkenny Castle
  • Enjoy a night of live traditional Irish music & song in Matt the Trasher one of Kilkenny’s popular Irish bars

Day 9: Kilkenny, Glendalough, Wicklow Mountains and Dublin City

  • Early start with an Irish Breakfast
  • Take the stunning mountain drive over the Carlow mountains and head north into Wicklow
  • This road trip takes you up over the Wicklow Gap down into beautiful Glendalough
  • The road travels through the stunning Wicklow Mountains and Wicklow National Park
  • Stop at Glendalough, take a walk through the lakeside grounds of this ancient monastic settlement founded by St Kevin
  • From Glendalough you visit nearby Powerscourt House, Gardens and beautiful Waterfall
  • Overnight in Trooperstown Inn and enjoy fine food and relaxing drink

Day 10: Dublin City

  • After an Irish Breakfast, head back towards Dublin
  • Arrive back in Dublin City in the morning, drop off Car in City Centre Depot
  • After check-in and freshening up you will be met by a private guide for a Unique Walking Tour of Dublin
  • Discover Trinity College & the famous ‘Book of Kells
  • Enjoy a ‘farewell meal’ in one of Dublin City’s best restaurants and the final evening is yours
  • Suggesting a walk around Dublins vibrant Temple Bar area or better a walk from City Centre down the quayside to the New Dublin Docklands, a city of lights, glass and beautiful bridges

Day 10: Farewell

  • Say a sad farewell today
  • Late Breakfast (depending on flight)
  • An Airport Transfer allowing plenty of time for your final farewell to the Emerald Isle
